ABOUT TEAM ASKEW
Team Askew is a 501© (3) AAU basketball non-profit organization with a mission to function as a model youth basketball program that emphasizes academics, athletic competition, leadership, self-discipline, and character building. We are located in Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. Team Askew was established in 2014 in Northern Virginia and has proudly partnered with Adidas, T.E. Exp, Team ABA and among others. These partnerships further increased the children and young adults experience. Team Askew Basketball Program provides a positive, competitive basketball experience to the athletes and their families. We focus not only on the fundamentals of the game and honing their athletic skills, but to also impart the ideals of good sportsmanship, teamwork, and loyalty over everything.
COACH MIKE
Michael Askew’s pedigree speaks for itself. Michael was a star basketball player at Virginia State University earning 3 straight selections to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) all-conference team, all conference tournament team selection, and achieved 1,000+ points in a career caped off with his induction into the VSU Sports Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
After his stellar career at VSU, which allowed him to earn his degree in Sports Management, Michael went on to have a short stint with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and finished up playing professionally in Mexico. Michael holds both a USA Gold Basketball certification and is a certified strength and conditioning coach through International Sports Science Association (ISSA).
Michael is the founder of Team Askew, a Northern Virginia based 501c 3 nonprofit youth basketball organization with a mission to function a model youth basketball

Develop Character
To develop each player's character by teaching the value of teamwork and sportsmanship through the game of basketball.
Increased Knowledge of the Game
To provide players with knowledge of the game by obtaining an excellent coaching staff that use instruction and techniques that are designed to improve skills and enable players to compete at a high level.
